My name is Makela Mims, and I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California and I specialize in anxiety and depression in African American women, couples therapy, and blended families.

The decision to begin therapy isn’t always easy, but that’s exactly why I’m here.

I have dedicated my life to supporting women and families that face the special challenges of anxiety, depression, and merging two families together.

As a biological mother of two, and a proud stepmother of two more, I understand the difficulties of merging two families.

I love helping women with families

find their way out

of isolation, guilt,

and stress.

I hold degrees in both Pastoral Studies and Marriage and Family Therapy, so I am concerned with the spiritual wellbeing of my clients. I care deeply about the troubles of African American women, and how depression and anxiety can impact lives.

Often times, Black women feel like their voices go unheard creating feelings of anxiety, unworthiness, or depression. Sometimes resulting in being labeled as the “angry black woman.”

To give African American women a safe space to discover and use their inner voice. I help women, married women and stepmothers who are battling anxiety and depression take back the peace within their lives.

FACING MAJOR LIFE TRANSITIONS

I’m a woman in transition, scared and unsure of my next move. I’m afraid I will fail. I’m afraid that I’m not good enough.

You may be a good fit for our services or resources if you can relate to these statements:

LACKING SELF-IDENTITY/SELF-LOVE

I’m a woman who is unfulfilled and uncertain. No one knows the heavy weight of inadequacy and fear of abandonment I carry daily. My smile is the mask I wear to to hide the pain of my insecurities. No one sees the real me.

help you need.
